Mercat Cross, Castlegate, walking tour

This one hour walking tour will provide historic context, look at the different types, shapes and construction of buildings and how to better read, appreciate and care for them.Starting and ending at the Mercat Cross, we will be walking less than a mile to point out some interesting historic buildings.Walking will be over some uneven surfaces so suitable footwear should be worn and clothing appropriate to the weather circumstances.This event is linked to the Trust's National Maintenance Week event on Friday 1 December 2023 at 7pm which can be booked on <a href="https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/755413962497?aff=oddtdtcreator" title="https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/755413962497?aff=oddtdtcreator">Eventbrite</a>. Attendance at the Friday evening event is not required to join the walking tour.About our tour guides:Mike Heffron was the first employee hired by the Under One Roof Board following its founding as a charity in 2020. He is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of the organisation as well as finance, fundraising, and team leadership. Mike attended Edinburgh Napier University in 2004, where he graduated with a Masters in Journalism.<a href="https://underoneroof.scot/" title="https://underoneroof.scot/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Under One Roof</a> provides support for tenement owners across Scotland with a focus on building maintenance, tenement management and retrofit.Craig Wilson is a Building Surveying lecturer at Robert Gordon University covering, amongst other areas, building pathology. He has been a trustee on the Board of heritage bodies in the North of England and Scotland, was formerly a Scottish committee member of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings and is Chair of Aberdeen City Heritage Trust.Douglas Campbell is a Building Conservation professional who has managed the Trust since 2004.<a href="https://www.aberdeenheritage.org.uk/" title="https://www.aberdeenheritage.org.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Aberdeen City Heritage Trust</a> is approaching its twentieth anniversary in 2024. Since 2005 it has supported repair of 265 traditionally constructed buildings.
