About this event

Now's your chance to be part of the SpecialEffect running team for the world’s biggest half marathon, the Great North Run! Returning for 2024, we've got 15 places for the event, but they're selling fast, so don't delay!

SpecialEffect is a charity that puts fun and inclusion back into the lives of physically disabled people across the world. Your fundraising donations will be helping to make a very real difference to people’s lives, most of whom face unremitting daily physical challenges.

The annual spectacular will take place on Sunday 8th September. Starting in Newcastle upon Tyne, the 13.1 mile route takes runners through the city centre towards the River Tyne where thousands of people will cross over the iconic Tyne Bridge. From there runners will travel through Gateshead while being entertained by our Bands on the Run.

The route, lined by thousands of supporters, leads runners to South Shields where at the top of Prince Edward Road the view of the sea is one of the most welcoming sights along the whole course. From that point there is just over a mile to go and the crowds get louder as runners make their way down the final straight towards the finish line.

When you set up a fundraising page either via Enthuse or JustGiving there will be a suggested target of £500 but that can be easily amended to suit you. We hugely appreciate any amount you're able to raise for us, large or small, it all makes a huge difference!

As a Fundraising Event Participant, any information you provide in this form will be stored safely and securely and we will retain it for an appropriate time. For our full Privacy and Cookies Policy, please visit our website at https://www.specialeffect.org.uk/privacy-and-cookies.

We put fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities by helping them to play video games.

By using technology ranging from modified joypads to eye-control, we're finding a way for people to play to the very best of their abilities. But we're not just doing it for fun. By levelling the playing field, we're bringing families and friends together and having a profoundly positive impact on quality of life.
