Dartmouth House Membership offers a collaborative community for dialogue, debate and gaining new perspectives through the power of language.

<p>Rounding off our day at Dartmouth House, Francesca Peacock will be discussing her biography of the First Duchess of Newcastle: ‘Pure Wit: The Revolutionary Life of Margaret Cavendish’. Born in 1623, Cavendish was one of the first English women to publish under her own name and one of the earliest female philosophers and scientists, writing about everything from the position of women to the nature of atoms. Margaret Cavendish may have been derided cruelly during her lifetime and have been neglected by history, but Francesca Peacock will be bringing her back into the spotlight at this presentation for the ESU. </p><p>Francesca is a writer and arts journalist based in London. She writes for ‘The Telegraph’, ‘The Times’, ‘The TLS’, ‘The Spectator’, ‘The FT’ and ‘Prospect’. ‘Pure Wit’ is her first book and is published by Head of Zeus. Copies will be available for purchase on the evening and there will be the opportunity for them to be signed by the author.</p>
