<h3>Have you visited Gateshead Riverside Park before? This urban forest along the River Tyne has wonderful stories hidden between the trees on the Rabbit Banks.</h3> <h3>Join this free storytelling workshop on Friday morning, 08 December. Learn how to shift your perspective to forest time, and create a story together with each other and the forest itself.</h3> Shifting our perspective will help make urban forests (all trees in and around cities) more accessible so that we can work towards greener, healthier, more inclusive and more resilient cities for all. This workshop is part of ongoing PhD research by Creative Practice at Newcastle University. In this project, researcher Lotte Dijkstra explores how senses of belonging relate to equitable access to urban forest places across communities. The project aims to contribute to the intersection of urban forestry, socio-environmental justice and community engagement and support fair, healthy and resilient urban forest planning, design and management. <h4>where and when to meet</h4>We will meet at <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/QnEQyKdcwhuKkitc6" title="https://maps.app.goo.gl/QnEQyKdcwhuKkitc6" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Pipewellgate Car Park, Gateshead NE8 2EU</a>.The workshop takes place on Friday, 8 December 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. <h4>what to prepare</h4>After a short introduction, you will be asked to sign a consent form, after which we will enter the park and stay outside for the duration of the workshop. Please dress appropriately for the weather; it is bound to be cold! Don’t forget to bring any water and medications as needed. You don’t have to prepare anything else, and you don’t need prior experience with similar sessions. <h4>who will be there</h4>Lotte Dijkstra (she/her) | workshop lead and PhD researcher Landscape Architecture at Newcastle UniversityKazusa Hayashi (she/her) | Master student Landscape Architecture at Newcastle University and research assistant to the project who is welcomeAll are welcome to join. Please feel free to bring your child, dog or other friends along. We limit the total number of human participants to 20 to get the most out of the session. accessibilityThe workshop takes place in a forested area, with steep asphalt paths and uneven forest floor. The closest toilets are available at By The River Brew Co (6-minute walk).Storytelling prompts are made to accommodate various modes of communication, including non-verbal. Throughout the workshop, there is always space to share and -not- share.We do our best to make each storytelling workshop as accessible as possible.
