F﻿ree2BMe Neurodiversity offers training, workshops and consultancy services around different aspects of neurodiversity, mostly around neurodiversity and mental health and counselling. We are a UK-wide, neurodivergent led and staffed service. Our training and workshops are always facilitated by neurodivergent trainers and we consult with neurodivergent people about our training content.

Exploring the neurodivergent experience of emotions and how we can better understand what is really going on for ND clients

Neurodivergent clients often speak about challenges with identifying and experiencing emotions, were some extreme experiences are described as Alexithymia. Emotional dysregulation is common, and the effects disabling. Neurodivergent people talk about overwhelm and anxiety, but is this anxiety the same experience as anxiety as we generally view it?In this session we will explore:<ul><li>Is neurodivergent anxiety different? Is it neurological anxiety, which is closely tied to the nervous system rather than unease, worry and fear? Can we use this concept as a way to understand overwhelm?</li><li>How can we talk about emotions and embodied feelings with clients who identify with alexithymia?</li><li>How can clients manage the frustration of the double empathy problem?</li><li>How can ND therapists manage their own emotions in their work with clients?</li></ul>This is a Spicy Space session where we focus on sharing our experiences and insights, and work together to better understand how we can work neurodivergent people. After a brief introduction, we will use group discussion to explore the topic.Places are limited to enable deeper connection and sharing. Anticipated group size is 5-12.Please note we will encourage you to have your CAMERAS ON, for this event, to facilitate open and constructive discussions amongst the participants. We recognise some may prefer to leave them off. The facilitator will ask for participants to turn their cameras on at the start of the event. Please do not feel pressured to do so if that makes you uncomfortable - but letting the facilitator know you prefer your camera off is helpful, either before, or at the start of the session.
