How to support disordered eating and eating disorders in autistic people.

<h4>In this talk, Dr Rachel Moseley (Principal academic in Psychology, Bournemouth University) will explore disordered eating and eating disorders (ED) in autistic people. Drawing on academic research and her own lived experience of conditions across the ED spectrum, Rachel will consider why autistic people are especially vulnerable to ED, and what we know about recovery and treatment. <br><br>This session will cover:</h4><p><br></p><ul><li>A brief overview of the key features and statistics around the most common types of ED; what features or mechanisms do they share in common?<br></li><li>Eating as an autistic person: pre-ED challenges and differences (e.g. selective eating)<br></li><li>Clinical features and prognosis for ED in autistic people; how do they differ from the general population?<br></li><li>Pathways to eating disorders for autistic people; what factors lead to the development and maintenance of ED?<br></li><li>What do we know about support and treatment for ED in autistic people?</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong><strong>Slides, references and CPD certificates will be available to attendees along with a recording to watch again for up to 30 days afterwards.</strong></strong></p>

<h3>Dr Rachel Moseley completed her PhD in cognitive neuroscience at Cambridge University and is now a Principle Academic at Bournemouth University.</h3><p><br></p><h3>Rachel's researched is centred on autism and the challenges autistic people face during adulthood. One particular area of study is the issues around late-diagnosis, the burden of camouflaging and stigma, aging, and lifespan transition points such as menopause.</h3><p><br></p><h3>Rachel has a passion for increasing the acceptance of neurodivergent minds through public engagement, and improving life for autistic people through my consultancy work and engagement with policy-makers.</h3>
