King’s Festival of Artificial Intelligence

The King's Festival of Artificial Intelligence is returning between Tuesday 21 & Saturday 25 May 2024, with a series of public events, including lectures, workshops and demonstrations, exploring artificial intelligence with researchers from across King's.

<h4>Introduction</h4><p>You're warmly invited to this in-person event with computer scientist Prof Luca Viganò<strong><strong>. </strong></strong>We particularly welcome students from local schools with an interest in STEM subjects. This event is aimed at those aged 16+, but younger students are welcome to attend.</p><p><em><em>Please note - you must pre-book a free ticket to attend this event. We are not able to book tickets on the door, or admit anyone without a pre-booked ticket. </em></em></p><p><br></p><h4>About the talk</h4><p>For generations, children around the world have experienced the timeless wonder of fairy tales. But most don’t realise that fairy tales are full of stories that illustrate the key concepts of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.</p><p>In this talk, Luca Viganò, Professor of Computer Science, will show that the story of Cinderella is actually about two factor authentication, how the tale of Ali Baba and the 40 thieves provides important lessons in eavesdropping, and even that the adventures of Pinocchio are really an exploration of the ethics of artificial intelligence. Through telling these stories, Luca will show how using art and stories can help people to better under these complex but very important topics.</p><p><br></p><h4>About the speaker</h4><p><a href="https://www.kcl.ac.uk/people/luca-vigano" title="https://www.kcl.ac.uk/people/luca-vigano" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Luca</a> is Professor of Computer Science in the Department of Informatics, King's College London. He is also the head of the <a href="https://www.kcl.ac.uk/research/cys" title="https://www.kcl.ac.uk/research/cys" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cybersecurity (CYS)</a> group, which studies design, modelling, analysis, verification and testing of networks and systems in order to tackle cybersecurity and privacy problems that are important to industry, society and everyone living in a technologically dependent world. Luca is International, Engagement &amp; Service Ambassador for King's College London and Vice Dean (Enterprise &amp; Engagement) of the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical &amp; Engineering Sciences.</p><p><br></p><h4>Additional information</h4><p>This event is aimed at those aged 16+. Younger attendees are welcome, but please note that attendees under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. If you are aged 14–18 and booking for yourself, please check with a parent or guardian before booking your place. For school groups, tickets are limited to 30 students per booking, to ensure a larger number of schools can attend.</p><p>Registration for this event will take place in reception in the main <a href="https://www.kcl.ac.uk/visit/strand-building" title="https://www.kcl.ac.uk/visit/strand-building" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Strand Building</a> entrance. This is on the Strand, directly opposite St Mary Le Strand Church.</p><p>This event is organised by the NMES Faculty at King’s College London. Complimentary refreshments will also be served at this time. The talk will run from 16.30–17.30. There will then be time for informal networking and Q&amp;A with the speaker until 18.00, when then event will finish.</p><p><br></p><h4>About the programme</h4><p><strong><strong>STEM Lectures for Schools </strong></strong>is a series of engaging events for secondary school students, organised by the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical &amp; Engineering Sciences (NMES). Attendees will hear from researchers working at King’s about the ground-breaking work they do, and the career path they took to get here. Throughout the year, the series will feature speakers from all NMES Departments: Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics and Physics.</p><p><br></p><h4>Accessibility</h4><p>This talk will take place in the Edmund J Safra Lecture Theatre, on the ground floor of the King's Building. Access is through the main entrance on<a href="https://www.kcl.ac.uk/visit/strand-building" title="https://www.kcl.ac.uk/visit/strand-building" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> the Strand</a>. The theatre is fully wheelchair accessible, with designated spaces for wheelchair users. There are accessible bathrooms on this floor.</p><p>The nearest step-free underground station is Blackfriars, but a number of bus routes stop a short distance from the Strand Campus.</p><p><br></p><h4><strong><strong>Photography and Privacy Notice</strong></strong></h4><p>The event you will be attending will have photography and/or videography.
