The Cultural Spring is an exciting, ambitious project to get more people in Sunderland and South Tyneside to experience and be inspired by the arts. We’ve been working with the best local, regional and national artists to ensure our programme really engages, enthuses, entertains and educates the 100,000 people living in our wards.

Creative Writing with Amanda QuinnOnline via ZoomMondays from 15th April - 3rd June 2024(no session on Monday 6th May &amp; 27th May)1pm - 3pm The Cultural Spring online writing group began as a way of encouraging and supporting people to do something creative during the Winter lockdown of 2020. Sessions were led by writer and facilitator, Amanda Quinn, and were all about writing and sharing stories and poems with others in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Since then, Amanda has continued to facilitate creative writing courses for The Cultural Spring. These courses are attended by a regular group of writers who are always keen to encourage new writers to come along and join them. Each course covers a range of topics such as flash fiction, historical fiction, short stories, writing dialogue, editing, plotting and how to write your life story. Sessions involve activities which are designed to get you writing and develop your skills as well as a chance to share and discuss your writing with the group (if you want to). People have also said how much they enjoy meeting up with other people who are interested in writing and that there’s no pressure to write anything perfect during a session. Age 16+Cost:Our workshop programme operates on a ‘Pay What You Feel’ model. This is part of our effort to encourage more people to get involved in arts and cultural activities. This means we don’t include a charge on the workshops upfront to ensure that cost isn’t a factor that deters anyone from taking part. This also removes the risk of paying for something that you might not enjoy. It does mean, if you do enjoy it, and can afford to pay more, you can. We want great arts and culture to be for all people, not just those that can afford it.If you enjoy the workshops and would like to make a payment to support the running costs, this is greatly received. You’ll receive details to do so or you can also make donations at any time through our website.
