Do you have an idea to reduce violent crime within Wirral? This time sensitive opportunity of funding to boost capacity will be of interest.

Merseyside Police has been allocated funding to combat the surge of violent crime throughout the region through their Merseyside Violence Reduction Unit (VRU). As a new initiative, Community Action Wirral has been selected to administer the allocation of funds to Wirral-based community organisations. This allocation of funding will be delivered in partnership with Wirral Community Safety Partnership, who have also received funding working within the same timescales.Merseyside VRU funding for community organisations has been made possible due to the work of <a href="https://www.vsnw.org.uk/our-work/devolution/vs6" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">VS6</a>, a partnership of support organisations throughout Liverpool City Region, working closely with Merseyside Police to enable a social and public health approach to tackling crime.If you consider your group or organisation can contribute to making Merseyside a safer place, through collaboration and joint-working, we are hosting an informal information session utilising an asset based action network model, scheduled to take place 1pm Monday 18th November at <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/Carr+Bridge+Community+Centre/@53.379565,-3.08131,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x6cfd3f79396948e4?sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiD3uCh-NXlAhXFSRUIHUwCBJEQ_BIwCnoECA8QCA" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Carrbridge Centre, Carrbridge Road, Woodchurch, CH49 8EU</a>.The funding will work towards the following priorities, which are aligned to Merseyside VRU’s Mission Statement;<ul><li>Criminal Exploitation</li><li>Child Sexual Exploitation </li><li>Gangs</li><li>Offensive Weapons</li><li>Anti-social Behaviour</li><li>Crime and Community</li><li>Peer Pressure</li></ul>Principles that underpin any applications/proposals must demonstrate:<ul><li>The aims of any activities or interventions are consistent with the VRU mission statement including impacting on the most vulnerable children and young people (0-25);</li><li>Information shared with children and young people is factually correct;</li><li>Programmes are age and peer appropriate;</li><li>Signposting for support beyond any programme/intervention is always identified; </li><li>Providers will ensure environments are emotionally, socially and physically supportive for the intervention or activity proposed with safeguarding measures in place; </li><li>Activities/interventions encourage the development of social skills and self-awareness, the management of feelings, empathy, health and well-being;</li><li>Longevity and sustainability are factored into all activities beyond any VRU funding;</li><li>Data information, whilst not identifiable to any one individual, is readily available; </li><li>Providers will report back to the VRU at intervals stipulated as part of the funding agreement; and</li><li>A full evaluation to be completed at the conclusion or an agreed appropriate time as measured against the objectives set.</li></ul>In releasing circa £80,000 of funding to community organisations, the Violence Reduction Unit aims to balance a universal offer across Merseyside alongside targeted work in areas of particular concern.Criteria to be met;<ul><li>The applying organisation must be Wirral-based.</li><li>They must be registered as a community organisation (registered charity, Community Interest Company (CIC), Community Benefit Society (CBS), Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC), Co-Operative or Community Land Trust)</li><li>Successful applicants must commit to sending at least one representative to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) training which will also be funded by Merseyside VRU.</li><li>If volunteers are involved in the project, the organisation must be working towards, or have been accredited, the <a href="https://communityactionwirral.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Wirral-Volunteering-Standard.pdf" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Wirral Volunteering Standard</a>.</li><li>Funded projects and interventions must run to Tuesday 31st March 2020 only, with impact and monitoring mechanisms and dates to be decided within the coming weeks.</li><li>Due to tight time constraints, organisations should not be aiming to recruit new members of staff linked to this funding allocation.</li></ul>
