Curated by Cosmin Perța and Iulian Morar, SWORDS is one of the first and most visible Bucharest spoken word initiatives. It brings together musicians, poets, actors, multimedia artists and performers, in spoken word sessions. At the Barbican Library, Cosmin Perța and Iulian Morar will present Love &amp; War, accompanied by performances by Elena Vlădăreanu, Florentin Popa and Mădălina Căuneac.Spoken word is (not) poetry. Spoken word is (not) theatre. Spoken word is (not) music. Spoken word is sound, image and message. Spoken word is vibration. It's communion. It's symbiosis, it's drama and comedy, it's monologue and it's dialogue. Spoken word is emotion. It's earworm. It's performance. It's symmetry. It's rhyme and rhythm. Spoken word is not political and it is not politics. It's social justice and anxiety. It's mindfulness and self-exploration. It's the voice that stays with you when you are alone in the room. (Cosmin Perța)This event is part of Romania’s presence at the London Book Fair 2024 and is organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute.Cosmin Perța is a poet, prose writer, essayist, performer and cultural manager. In the last 20 years he published 6 volumes of poetry, made two multimedia poetic installations, organised several dozens poetry events, held writing workshops and performed in dozens of festivals on four continents.Iulian Morar is an event manager and curator, founder of Liveland, creator and protagonist of the Midweek Tapes editions of Control Club, contributing with music and visuals in various spoken word events.Elena Vlădăreanu is a writer and journalist. She published several volumes of poetry, prose, children's literature and is interested in creating poetry using various media, including photos and sounds. She is the voice of Scene and Screen radio show on the National Radio Corporation.Florentin Popa published three volumes of poetry and several translations. He founded The (micro)cultural / communal platform Mafia Sonetelor / The Mafia of the Sonnets, where you can see him carving at poems or chatting on podcasts. He reserves the right to be forgotten.Mădălina Căuneac made her debut in October 2022, with the volume of poetry Crisalida, excerpts of which she uses to build performative concepts in various collaborations with Strada Fără Nume, CenaClub and Florentin Popa.
