Join our online panel discussion on March 20, 2024, at 1:00 PM, as we explore the fascinating intersection of Information Literacy and AI

The CILIP Information Literacy Group (ILG) is pleased to host an online roundtable event as we commemorate 50 Years of Information Literacy in 2024. We are excited to have a panel of IL professionals to share insights on the key topic of Information Literacy and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This event is aimed at information literacy practitioners and library staff keen on acquiring knowledge and insight into the issues and implications of new AI technologies on IL. Join us for an enlightening roundtable discussion that will hopefully encourage us to understand the challenges and possibilities facing library practitioners and information professionals with this new technology used across all areas of society.Date: Wednesday 20th March, 1pm – 2.30pm Location: OnlineWe will hear from four speakers who will share their recent work and/or experience of IL and AI in different sectors, followed by a discussion moderated by Dr Jane Secker.Dr Jane Secker (Chair) Jane Secker is Associate Professor in Educational Development at City, University of London. She is Chair of the CILIP Information Literacy Group, Joint Programme Director for the MA in Academic Practice and Programme Director for the CityLIS course. She is a member of City’s Generative AI Task and Finish group and has been running workshops mainly for staff on issues related to AI and assessment, academic misconduct and copyright.Sarah Pavey: Generative AI in the School Environment. Sarah Pavey is an independent education consultant who worked as a school librarian for over 20 years. She is a member of CILIP Information Literacy Group and runs regular training courses about the use of generative AI in schools. This also encompasses the choice of generative AI used whether for text writing or images in academic work.Anne-Lise Harding: Using AI in a parliamentary context. Anne-Lise Harding (she/elle) is Strategic Training Lead at the House of Commons and co-deputy chair of the CILIP Information Literacy Group (ILG). Anne-Lise’s interests lie in information literacy, education and inclusion. After graduating with an MA in Librarianship in 2011, Anne-Lise held several roles in the education sector; making the transition to the government sector in 2020. In her role, Anne-Lise oversees the quality and impact of the training delivered by the House of Commons Library, encompassing both continual professional development and training for Members of Parliament and their staff. She leads training in Information Literacy in a parliamentary context and champions the use of diverse, inclusive and representative evidence.Josh Rodda: The relationship between AI and traditional ideas of authorship. Josh Rodda is a Learning Development Librarian at the University of Nottingham, where he was one of the architects of the university's student-facing guidance on AI. He is a member of the ILG New Professionals' Sub-Committee, and a host of the Chatting Info Lit podcast.Rosie Jones: (1) Exploring the boundaries for libraries, is this another crossroads where we are deciding whether to lead or contribute, are we even part of the conversation? (2) Does AI increase the digital divide? Rosie Jones is Director of Student and Library Services and interim Director of Student Learning and Academic Registry at Teesside University leading departments made up of multidisciplinary teams. She has worked in academic libraries since 2001 taking a particular interest in games and learning, information literacy and learning space development.
