The events of 7th October 2023 are presented repeatedly by the mainstream media as an unprovoked attack by Hamas on innocent kibbutzniks and concert goers. But the context of that carnage has been largely ignored - the 75-year history of dispossession, illegal occupation, blockade, deprivation and violence meted out to the millions of Palestinians who live in the Holy Land.The feature-length documentary, Roadmap to Apartheid, was made in 2012 . Of course, it didn't anticipate Israel's current genocidal military assault upon Gaza, with the complicit support of many western governments. However, the film does provide an information-rich corrective to the dominant media narrative on Israel/Palestine, amid the fog of allegations conflating anti-Zionism, condemnation of IDF and Israeli government actions with antisemitism .Ana Nogueira is a white South African and Eron Davidson is an Israeli Jew. Using their first-hand knowledge, their film examines the apartheid comparison increasingy used to describe the state of Israel. It assesses the rhetorical analogy using a fact-based comparison. It is both an historical record of the rise and fall of South Africa's apartheid - and the lessons to be learned from it - as well as demonstrating why Palestinians consider they are living under an even worse apartheid system today. A view shared by increasing numbers of people around the world.Apartheid and BDS (boycott, divestment and sanctions) are fully linked because of the South African experience. Commentators describe the situation in Israel as worse than it was in South Africa, and document how the two countries worked together on military and security measures.
