The third Festival of Open Research will celebrate the open research taking place here at the University of Southampton.

<h3>Overview</h3>The third Festival of Open Research will celebrate the open research taking place here at the University of Southampton. This face-to-face event will introduce staff and postgraduate students to vital themes in open research, and is the perfect place to learn about the increasing focus placed on open practices across all disciplines. Dr Sholto David will present a keynote on ‘Identifying Errors and Manipulation in the Scientific Literature, with a Focus on Images’. <h3>Key-note speaker</h3>Recent retractions posted by researchers at top cancer centres in the US (Dana- Farber and Memorial Sloan Kettering) were prompted by blogging at For Better Science. Sholto will discuss his hobby of identifying and documenting errors in the scientific literature, and his quixotic efforts to resolve them.Sholto did his PhD at the Institute of Cell and Molecular Biology, Newcastle University, where he studied the structure and function of copper storage proteins. Since 2019 he has worked as an analytical scientist in industry, first at Oxford Biomedica, and then briefly for Simbec Orion, he is currently enjoying some time off work.
