INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY WEEK OF SCREENINGS

K﻿ent Film Foundation is managing the Ramsgate Community Cinema, built entirely by volunteer residents, programming an eclectic mix of film for everyone. The cinema also hosts FREE youth filmmaking workshops on Mondays in term time from 6pm-8pm for young people interested in film and the arts both infront of the camera and behind it.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY WEEK OF SCREENINGS ALL ACCOMPANIED BY A SPECIALLY SELECTED SHORT FILM FROM THE WOMEN OVER FIFTY FILM FESTIVAL 2023 TOURCelebrate the power of women on the big screen at Ramsgate Community Cinema! Join us for a week of inspiring, funny, moving and exhilirating stories both narrative fiction and documentaries and wrapped around with a series of short films from the Women Over Fifty Film Festival Tour. From gripping documentaries to heartwarming dramas, this event is a must-attend for anyone who appreciates female voices in cinema.PAY A DONATION IN ADVANCE FOR ALL OR ONE ATTENDANCE OR ON THE DAY.Wednesday 6th March: First up a Percy Adlon double bill of two very different films starting with 2pm Salmonberries (1991) 15 set in a remote Alaskan mining town and starring singer KD Lang who also sings the evocative title song "Barefoot". After Adlon directed Lang's music video for her song, So in Love for the AIDs-benefit Red Hot + Blue, he wrote the ethereal lesbian-romance script to Salmonberries especially for her. 7pm Bagdad Cafe (1987) PG Where a lonely German woman ends up in the most desolate motel on earth and decides to make it brighter. An evocative, slow-build but ultimately feel good film about an unexpected friendship that grows between two women. Come to one or both screenings.Thursday 7th March: 7pm Earth Mama (2023) 15 Critically acclaimed feature debut by Savannah Leaf transforming from a 2012 Olympian to a BAFTA winning filmmaker. An intimate portrayal of Gia who has two children in care and another on the way when she sets out to fight to get her family back.Friday 8th March: 7pm Smoke, Sauna, Sisterhood (2023) 15 Award winning documentary set in a smoke sauna where women come together and share their inner most secrets and intimate experiences, embracing the healing power of sisterhood along the way.Saturday 9th March 2pm WOFFF on Tour. We host a block of short films from the 2023 Women Over Fifty Film Festival. Followed by a talk from Nuala O'Sullivan founder and curator of the festival. 7pm The Disappearance of Shere Hite (2023) Documentary narrated by Dakota Johnson about the feminist sex educator who wrote about female sexuality in the Hite Report, a book that sold over 48 million copies and remains the 13th best-selling book of all time. The film rediscovers Hite for a new generation and shows the lead up to her "cancellation" from the public discourse long before the term came in to common use.
