Follow in the footsteps of Wilfred Owen on his birthday on a walk led by Thomas J.P. Muldoon, WOA Membership Secretary.

Shrewsbury Railway Station

Distance 3 miles / 5km, 1.5 hours approximately. Grade: Easy Terrain: Mostly pavements and well surfaced footpaths. Some steep steps. The river paths may have puddles during wet weather. Some paths may be closed during flooding, requiring a detour and extra time.We will meet at 10:30 a.m. At the main entrance to Shrewsbury Railway Station. After visiting the First World War memorial plaque within the station, the walk proceeds, via steps, to the riverside and then to the very pleasant suburb of the Cherry Orchard area. Here we will see four houses where the Owen family once lived. Next we will make our way to Shrewsbury Abbey where the “Symmetry” memorial to Wilfred Owen can be seen. Then crossing the “English Bridge” we will again follow the path along the river and back to the railway station. The walk will proceed at 10:35a.m. prompt, from the meeting place. Please may I request your cooperation as a courtesy to all members of the group.Please note that due to local weather and river conditions the route may need to change, which may extend the time.With some steep steps and inclines, please consider if this walk is for you. If you are feeling unwell please consider seeking professional medical advice.Please use hand rails where provided.Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for the walk and weather conditions.Please take care whilst using paths and pavements and roads: showing consideration for other pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.All children must be accompanied by an adult and have an individual ticket.Spaces are limited, please book via the Eventbrite site for your free ticket.
