The director of London Bushcraft, Wendy Paton, believes that bushcraft is very much needed in a society that has in some ways drifted away from its ancestral and natural roots. She believes bushcraft provides people with an opportunity to connect with the world around them more fully - and sometimes also a part of themselves they have never come into contact with before. London bushcraft offers friendly, fun and hands on bespoke bushcraft courses for corporate team building, schools, birthdays, stag and hen events, community events and more.Sophie Downer is a local, sesonal chef. Are you a born survivor?  Build your own shelter, fire, find water and cook over an open fire.

Merrist Wood College

In this overnight survival challenge you will learn the basics of survival. From making your own shelter that you will sleep in to learning various fire lighting techniques, you will not only learn how to survive but also thrive! Your day will begin by making your natural shelter to make you comfortable for the evening ahead. We will give you the skills to use cutting tools such as knifes and saws to help you in the woods from building shelters and carving wood to cook your evening meal on. The evening meal will cater for a variety of dietary requirements including vegetarian and non vegetarian options. You will have the option of preparing a fish to cook over the fire. We will forage any wild foods to add to our evening meal. With a full belly, star gaze by the fire before retreating to your cosy shelter you have made, completely in touch with nature for the night!The next morning we will make breakfast over the fire as a group. Over the weekend you will learn various fire lighting techniques including using fire steels, friction fire lighting, flint and steel and electrical methods. Finish off the weekend learning how to make cordage to make string and finally about water; how to find it and make it safe to drink. You will go away from the course having learned lots of skills, pushed yourself out of your comfort zone and feel a sense accomplishment.
