Pennywort Pull: The river Bulbourne

Come and join us in protecting the Bulbourne from the pesky invasive floating pennywort on the 19th of April!

LocationMeeting point/car park: The Three Horseshoes Car Park (Overflow) 48 Pouchen End Lane, Bourne End, England, HP1 2RZPublic transport options: Trains run to Hemel Hempstead train station, following this you can get a bus to Pouchen End Lane DetailsWe will be conducting a survey for the invasive plant species floating pennywort throughout the river Bulbourne, an internationally rare chalk stream. We will be following a mapped route, with a trained rivers officer guiding the way. Floating pennywort, a species originally from South America, can quickly spread throughout waterways, leading to loss of local biodiversity and increased flooding risk. It forms large rafts on the surface of the river, that can also prevent recreational use of waterways. Whilst conducting the survey in the river, we will also be removing what we can of this invasive plant species. This event involves a full day in the river doing practical work, so please wear warm clothes! Do this by emailing Rivers.Team@groundwork.org.ukPlease confirm attendance prior to the day, and contact Rivers.Team@groundwork.org.uk if you can no longer attend.Please be aware that this event has the potential to be cancelled 48 hours prior in the case of sewage discharge due to health and safety reasons. Additionally, in extreme weather conditions or if water levels are unsafe, we may have to cancel the event.Please be aware that you should be able to swim to attend this event.
