The Japanese Sashiko stitching was a humble way to embellish and increase the life expectancy of clothing, with stitches designed to empower the wearer with patterns such as Seigaiha (Blue Sea Waves) giving the wearer waves of good luck!

Our monthly stitch clubs are a great way to connect with mindful mending, repair to wear, meaningful stitching together to ceate a more sustainable style statement. Join our expert stitch instructors as they explain the indigenous metaphors and meaning of each style of stitch. Learn to thread your needle, stitch in rythm and create magic with the power of thread.Wrap your threads to choose your colours with mindful balance and create harmonious patterns. Our fabric painting workshops are super creative and perfect for adding a touch of nature to your threads.

Conscious Lab Events is a local community and educational focussed partnership between Sarah Ratty FRSA, Georgina Hooper and Davey Williams. Who together have co-founded Conscious Lab Events (Nature, fashion, art, textiles, music). Placing the environment at the heart of the experience. Working together 4nature to foster positive change through fashion, textiles and music. Following the success of the Conscious Fashion Show at Soho House Brighton on 21 March 2023 (Spring Equinox). We have planted over 300+ trees at Stanmer Organics and working to re-wild a meadow to encourage pollinators this summer. We run workshops to create inclusive hubs for young people and the young at heart to be given support, space and connections they need to engage in activities to develop sustainability skills and explore practical ways of contributing to a greener future. Our Fashion based workshops explore stitching styles from Japan whilst others focus on customisation with scissors, paint and thread or patchworking with remnants from Libertys and Sophie darling local sustainable designer. Our quarterly swap shop fashion exchanges keep fashion in circularity and out of landfil. Join us for a customisation monthly stitch club events where we will lengthen the life of your clothes and inspire positive change.

About UsSarah Ratty FRSA is a Conscious Fashion Design Pioneer and Expert with 30 years experience in developing the blueprint for Sustainable Conscious Design for fashion and interiors. Running two fashion brands Consious Earthwear a favourite with vintage Y2K and Ciel.Sarah studied as a Sustainable Business Lead at Cambridge University, and helped create the Global Organic Cotton Standard with the Soil Association's Textile Advisory Comittee . A speaker on Sustainable fashion and Green futures at the UN for the launch of the International Year of Biodiversity, to The Tate Modern on the subject of Fast Fashion vs Climate Balance for the event one Planet One Chance.Georgina Hooper is the Teaching and Learning Manager for Creative Industries and Sustainability Lead for Brighton MET College.Her own creative practice explores mending and repair techniques to extend the life cycle of garments and personal belongings.She is an independent researcher and advocate for sustainable change and community engagement.Davey Williams is a music producer, programmer and play scheme leader. Working at the Blue Note in Hoxton Square London, as part of the Asian Undergound movement in the 90's at Anokha and the beats creator for the vibrant Electro Swing Band, Swing Zazou. Davey is passionate about the environment, Forest Bathing, mindful mending and being in nature.Ambassadors include local artists and designers and environmentalists:Sophie Darling - Textile Artist and Print DesignerNoki - Sustainable Textile ArtistScarlett Fae - Singer SongwriterFusion - Rap Artist and PoetIona Scott- Multi Media Artist at Discospheara,Sarah Arnett - Fashion and Interiors Textile Artist,Lisa Davies - Jewellery Designer , Herbalist and Founder of the Physic Garden Project .
