End-of-Life Care: Understanding Cultural Differences

SESCA, the South East branch of the Care Association Alliance (CAA), represents Adult Social Care providers in the region and promotes the exchange of ideas and best practices among local Care Associations. They actively contribute to the development of integrated services and the sustainability of the evolving care market.

SESCA (South East Social Care Alliance)

A 1.5-hour online workshop for newly arrived overseas care workers, covering end-of-life care in the UK and cultural differences.

Funded by the Department of Health and Social Care's international recruitment fund, this online workshop is part of a wider training programme put together by SESCA to assist providers in the onboarding of their new overseas recruits.Participants must meet the following criteria:<ul><li>Non-UK national</li><li>Working under a sponsored visa</li><li>Ideally recently arrived in the UK, but not essential</li><li>Employed by a CQC registered adult social care organization operating in the South-East</li></ul>Bookings should be made by the authorized manager at the care service.Places are limited to 2 participants per care provider, per webinar. AimTo acknowledge the cultural difference of those caring in social care settings related to end-of-life care in the UK and the impact this has on residents and staff. Learning Outcomes<ul><li>Understand what palliative and end-of-life care means and how we can support residents and staff.</li><li>Gain knowledge and understanding of the cultural differences related to palliative and end-of-life care.</li><li>For care sector staff to understand the main causes of death in the UK.</li><li>For care sector staff to acknowledge the emotional impact of caring for the dying.</li></ul> About the TrainerDr. Amanda Young (PhD RGN DN RNT) serves as the Director of Nursing Programmes at the Queen’s Nursing Institute, with extensive experience in end-of-life care, including care homes and community-based nursing.Inspired by her research on moral distress in staff providing end-of-life care in care homes during her PhD, Dr. Young has developed this webinar to help overseas care workers understand the cultural nuances of end-of-life care in the UK.
