Mastering Social Care Communication for Overseas Carers

SESCA, the South East branch of the Care Association Alliance (CAA), represents Adult Social Care providers in the region and promotes the exchange of ideas and best practices among local Care Associations. They actively contribute to the development of integrated services and the sustainability of the evolving care market.

SESCA (South East Social Care Alliance)

30-minute online introduction; then 4 weekly 1.5-hour online tutor sessions & 8 e-learning modules, requiring 2 hours of learning per week.

Funded by the Department of Health and Social Care's international recruitment fund, this online workshop is part of a wider training programme put together by SESCA to assist providers in the onboarding of their new overseas recruits.Participants must meet the following criteria:<ul><li>Non-UK national</li><li>Working under a sponsored visa</li><li>Ideally recently arrived in the UK, but not essential</li><li>Employed by a CQC registered adult social care organization operating in the South-East</li></ul>Bookings should be made by the authorized manager at the care service.Places are limited to 2 participants per care provider per course. Where a course is running multiple times, each instance can accommodate 2 participants per care provider. Course OverviewThis course is designed for newly arrived overseas carers in the adult social care sector. It teaches the English language and communication skills vital for carers to effectively participate in everyday social care situations. These include self-introductions, personal care, managing falls and injuries, and addressing mental health concerns.The course employs a blended approach, combining individual e-learning with live, online, instructor-led group role-playing. This approach has a proven track record of quickly advancing language skills and enhancing learners' confidence. AimAfter 4 weeks, learners will have acquired the language, communication skills, and confidence to engage in a wide range of everyday situations with service users and colleagues. Key Features<ul><li>Live online sessions enable participants to practice language learned via e-learning through role plays, led by an experienced instructor.</li><li>Designed primarily for Health and Care Worker Visa holders with entry-level English working in adult social care.</li><li>E-learning covers vocabulary, phrases, pronunciation, and communication skills and includes 8 work-related topics, with a test at the end of each topic.</li><li>Focuses on everyday work situations, with activities to help participants learn, including video and audio content featuring a range of accents.</li><li>CPD accredited (8 hours) with assessment and certification</li><li>Optimized for desktop and mobile use</li><li>Written by Virginia Allum an internationally renowned medical English author, speaker and trainer.</li><li>Each course is limited to 6-14 participants in total; 2 participants per care provider.</li></ul> Course Outline <ol><li>Introducing Yourself and Welcoming Service Users</li><li>Talking About Food and Drink</li><li>Talking About Toileting</li><li>Talking About Mobility</li><li>Talking About Pain</li><li>Talking About Pressure Area Care</li><li>Talking About Falls</li><li>Talking About Mental Health</li></ol> Accessing the E-Learning PlatformInstructions for accessing the e-learning platform via desktop and mobile phone will be sent shortly after you receive your booking confirmation (full support available).
