Understanding Bladder Cancer and the Latest Developments

Although few people have heard of it, bladder cancer isn’t rare – it’s one of the 10 most common cancers in the UK with, in total, over 20,500 people diagnosed each year. This is around 5% of all new cancer diagnoses and affecting all ages, with almost three-quarters of cases occurring in men.Diagnosis can sometimes be late and most people often don’t know what symptoms to look out for. Many patients tell us that the first they heard of bladder cancer was when they were told they had it.Action Bladder Cancer UK works to raise awareness of bladder cancer and to provide support and information for patients and their families. There’s a wide range of information about bladder cancer on our website and many  free resources.  We provide direct patient support by phone and email and set up and sustain patient support groups around the country (in person or online). As well as supporting patients, ABC UK funds and supports research into bladder cancer.

Understanding Bladder Cancer – and the latest developmentsA Nurses’ Bladder Cancer Education DayABC UK is pleased to announce its next Nurses’ Bladder Cancer Education Day.This event is for Urology Nurses and Clinical Nurse Specialists who may already be treating those with bladder cancer and is also open to nurses wishing to expand their knowledge of bladder cancer and who may be working in other areas of urology or cancer care.This annual ABC UK Education Day (part of the ABC UK Education Programme) is an opportunity for nurses to gain up-to-date learning on bladder cancer treatments and the newest developments, and also to network with other nurses from across the UK and share their experiences and expertise.The Programme will be delivered by a range of specialists – including from urology, oncology and advanced urology nursing – as well as a bladder cancer patient. Our specialist speakers are drawn from NHS Trusts across the UK.It will also be an opportunity to hear about the work of ABC UK and how we support those with bladder cancer and also how we can support nurses in working with patients.The event will be held in central Birmingham.
