SMR Radio Training | One Day Course (North)

Scottish Mountain Rescue (SMR) represents25 Mountain Rescue Teams(MRTs) made up of highly trained volunteers who are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to emergencies and carry out a specialist search and rescue service in the mountains and remote communities in Scotland to keep people safe and help people if and when they get into difficulty.

Attendees will gain a better understanding of the capabilities of their team radios and how they can make callouts safer and more efficient.

<h3>Description:</h3>Radios and good quality communications are essential for Mountain Rescue Teams. This one day course has been developed to deliver all the knowledge and skills you need to understand and use your team radios, mobile radios and any digital repeaters your team may have. In addition, we will cover the use and benefits of a repeater network and Zello, a mobile app which integrates with the VHF network. We will also explore how these skills translate to Incident Management. <h3>Radio Training Course Objectives</h3>By the end of the course, attendees will be able to;<ul><li>1. Use the full functionality of the Hytera Handheld and Vehicle Radios including: -</li></ul><ul><li>Changing channels</li><li>Using and understand Scan Groups</li><li>Point to Point—Full Duplex</li><li>Single Frequency repeat</li><li>GPS to MRMap</li><li>Setting up MRMap Guide</li><li>Updating the GPS to Digital Mapping configuration file (.ini file)</li></ul> <ul><li>2. Understand the possibilities of interfacing to other hardware and systems including: -</li><li>Zello (Push To Talk Mobile App) to Radio IntegrationProvide tools and methodologies to effectively coordinate an incident</li><li>Airwave &amp; ESN</li><li>Repeaters Simplex and Network</li></ul> <ul><li>3. Understand how best to use radios to support Incident Management.</li></ul>On the course, there will be a range of Hytera equipment available to help demonstrate all of the subjects covered, but we would appreciate it if team members could bring their own team radios. * Teams are welcome to bring other manufacturers if their teams use them, however the focus will be on Hytera.

After a couple of weeks of the course being bookable, if there are still spaces available, we will open the course up.Police Scotland / RAF mountain rescue attendees:Please contact the SMR Office on 01479 861370 before booking onto the course.Cancellation Policy:SMR reserves the right to charge a cancellation fee of £100 if failure to turn up to this course or a cancellation too late in which we cannot fill your space. This fee allows us to offset any costs which we will be incurred as a result of late cancellation.
