Pride and Protest: A Virtual Celebration of Resilience and Diversity Date: Saturday, 29th June 2024Time: 19:30 to 22:30 (BST)Venue: Online via ZoomHost: Alan Parry, Editor-in-Chief of The Broken Spine Event Description:Join us this June as we embrace the spirit of Pride Month with a vibrant online event, "Pride and Protest: A Virtual Celebration of Resilience and Diversity." This gathering is not just a celebration; it's a powerful statement of joy intertwined with activism, honouring both the history and the ongoing struggles of the LGBTQIA+ community. Event Details:<ul><li>Celebratory Readings: Experience a series of readings from select works that explore themes of identity, resistance, and liberation. Our curated list includes both renowned and emerging LGBTQIA+ poets and writers whose voices echo the spirit of Pride.</li><li>Safe Space Commitment: This event is designed as a safe space for LGBTQIA poets and allies to come together in celebration and solidarity. Alan Parry, an ally and father of two queer children, has a rich history of involvement in LGBTQIA+ initiatives, including coverage of Liverpool Pride, performances at Sefton Pride, and is currently overseeing the production of an LGBTQIA+ themed anthology of poetry, set to open for submissions later this year. This session is an opportunity to share, learn, and grow together in an environment of mutual respect and understanding.</li><li>Special Invitations: Special invitations will be sent to some of our LGBTQIA+ friends to attend and share their work. Poets will be given five minutes to read or present up to three poems in the first round. If there is appetite and time allows, we will gladly give poets further time to read at the end.</li><li>Tiered Ticketing: To help us raise funds and assist those coping with the cost of living crisis, we offer tiered ticketing. This allows participants to choose a ticket price that suits their financial situation, ensuring everyone who wishes to participate can do so without financial barriers.</li></ul>
