Agenda

Tooting Bec Asylum was opened by The Metropolitan Asylum Board in 1903 on the edge of Tooting Common. It expanded after the First World War and grew to accommodate 2200 patients. The hospital closed  in 1995 and the buildings that made up the wards, staff accommodation and administrative blocks were demolished leaving only the brick walls and metal railings that surrounded the site which is now occupied by the Heritage Park Estate. 
What was life like for the patients and staff? How should the lives lived in this institution be remembered?
