We believe in the creative power of communities to bring about real change.Northern Heartlands is an arts charity and Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation based in County Durham bringing the creativity of artists together with individuals, communities and partner organisations. Together, we deliver projects, activities and events that can change how people feel about themselves, the places where they live, and what happens there.We work with people to celebrate the unique identity of a place, valuing its heritage and culture, and fostering creativity. By amplifying local voices, we help empower communities to overcome challenges and imagine new possibilities so meaningful change can happen.

Find out more about Cultivate Commissions: designed to support creative practitioners to work with and alongside communities in Co. Durham

Cultivate Commissions are a component of the Into the Light Place Partnership initiative in County Durham. Into the Light is a transformative programme that will drive long-lasting growth in County Durham through creative collaboration. Over the next three years, it will cultivate talent, widen access to creative education, enhance skills, and break down barriers in the creative industries.  Funders: Include Durham County Council, Arts Council England, Durham University, Culture Durham, and the UK Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund (specifically for Place Lab and Cultivate Commissions).Cultivate Commissions are being delivered by No More Nowt and Northern Heartlands. Create North has been commissioned to support the Cultivate Ideas activity.In this session you will find out more about Cultivate Commissions, the aim, objectives and how to apply. The session will encourage creative practitioners to consider the conditions that enable creativity and a pride of place. The activity will encourage practitioners to reflect on how the commission might support their own creativity and their artistic practice to develop.The goal of Cultivate Commissions is to bolster creativity in County Durham and instil pride within its communities.The Cultivate Commissions opportunity includes:<ul><li>10 Seed Commissions of the value of £2000 each</li><li>4 Germinate Commissions of the value of £5000 each</li><li>6 Harvest Commissions of the value of £5000 each</li><li>A programme of activity to support awarded practitioners implement, document and celebrate their project and consider how they might apply learning resulting from the creative process to enhance their own creative practice.</li></ul>This online session will be recorded and images may be used from the session to document the project. If you do not wish your image to be used, please turn off your video camera.
