The Verbatim Formula presentsCare to Create: Share your StoriesDEVISING and ACTIVISM with VERBATIM PERFORMANCE.We would love to share our practices with you and hear teachers' testimonies on the value of Drama to young people's creative lives.Details:Monday 8th July 20245.30 pm to 7 pmJoin us online (you will receive an email with the link to join the event)"Access to creative and arts practice is essential, for ALL young people, and ESPECIALLY those who are impacted the most by social injustice.”As you know, Drama provides a unique and powerful means for expression, and personal growth. For young people these opportunities can be particularly transformative.We are excited to share that we are planning a The Verbatim Formula (TVF) event to celebrate and advocate for access to arts practices and learning for all young people, regardless of their circumstances.We are seeking advice and input from people and organisations who work with young people, and we would love to hear teachers’ specialist expertise and insights.In true TVF style, we start with listening and talking; your anonymised testimonies could be shared at the event, if you consent.Please come to:<ul><li>hear about verbatim devising techniques</li><li>share your insights and experiences of the value of Drama</li><li>find out more about experiences of care and how they affect students</li></ul> The event will be led by Dr Maggie Inchley and Dr Sylvan Baker, academic leads of The Verbatim Formula, and also by the project’s Co-Researchers who have had experience in the care system. Dr Maggie Inchley is a lecturer in Drama at Queen Mary University of London and Director of Schools Outreach. She works with the university's Widening Participation team on supporting students with experiences of care and family estrangement, and has her own experience of adoption. She is also the author of the Methuen GCSE guide to Dennis Kelly's DNA. Dr Sylvan Baker is a care experienced, neurodivergent, artist &amp; Lecturer in Applied Theatre at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. He is school participation and liaison contact for Central’s Department of Practice. His reflections on education and growing up in care feature in the Small Axe Podcast series ‘Person with Care Experience’ on BBC Sounds. Sylvan's other main research, Restar, works with neurodivergent young co-researchers and schools to develop education resources for neurodivergent students. TVF Co-researcher Isabelle Kirkham’s brilliant work on the impact of Tracy Beaker on young people with care experience is on BBC Teach.

The Verbatim Formula:The Verbatim Formula works with People’s Palace Projects, bringing together care-experienced people and artists as co-researchers. At its events, testimonies of lived experience generate powerful impacts and meaningful discussion. Its work is funded by Queen Mary University of London, The Portal Trust, and the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
