The Thousand Gardens

Revolvis a collective run by Krasimira Butseva, Lina Ivanova, Ibrahim Azab, Lucas Gabellini-Fava, Victoria Louise Doyle, Alexander Mourant and Laura Bivolaru. The collective focuses on creating opportunities for emerging visual artists through open calls, workshops, exhibitions and events.

Photographic Reading and Writing Workshop, led by Victoria Louise Doyle

Within this workshop we aim to explore Photography and its relationship to Literature. Through both writing and reading alike we intend to develop and expand ideas around alternative ways one might approach reading photographs. There will be a distinct focus on experimentation as we challenge you to embrace practice as a process of unlearning.The first part of the workshop will consist of a series of writing exercises designed to encourage and generate thoughts around how meaning can be manifested, subverted or reinforced. Moving from this we will begin to think more about writing as a medium, you will be asked to consider the page as a space of encounter and explore how the visual act of reading can affect the content. In the second part we shall focus on image as language and attempt to come to terms with ambiguity. With particular consideration to structure, rhythm, and breath we shall use the photographs that you have brought along to construct and configure your own language drawing from the techniques proposed in the writing exercises.Please bring along the 25 photographs from your camera roll (on your phone). These will be essential, as we will be working with these through out the workshop. (Note, they need to be printed - aka hard copies). Paper and pens will be provided, however if you prefer to write on your phone or laptop, please do bring those along with you.We look forward to seeing you there!<a href="https://victorialouisedoyle.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Victoria Louise Doyle</a> is an artist based between Newcastle-upon-Tyne and London. She recently obtained a MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art and was the recipient of the 2019 RCA X Metro Mentorship Award. Victoria is a member of The Collective Studio run by The NewBridge Project. She has exhibited nationally and internationally.
