About this Event

Steve Broach is a Public Law Barrister at Monckton Chambers who specialises in cases involving disabled children and young people. Steve is one of the co-authors of Disabled Children: A Legal Handbook (Legal Action Group, 3rd edition 2020). Steve acts for children, young people and families in courts and tribunals from the First-tier Tribunal to the Supreme Court. Prior to coming to the bar Steve worked in the voluntary sector, including for the National Autistic Society and the Council for Disabled Children, where he managed the ‘Every Disabled Child Matters’ campaign.

Outline of the day:

In the ‘Law in a Day’ training, Steve will cover the key law across education, health and social care as it affects disabled children and young people aged 0-25 and their families. He will address the main duties and powers created by the Children and Families Act 2014 and the Care Act 2014, as well as broader entitlements across, education, health and social care. The session will be interactive with time for questions throughout. However, Steve will not be able to provide any advice on individual cases.
