Like Weeds, Growing Through Cracks

Three Rivers is a free-floating social arts agency. We work with local partners to support creative practices, which recognise, resource and respond to people, place, land and community, in the London Borough of Bexley.Three Rivers is funded by Arts Council England, through a programme called Creative Places and People, which focuses on parts of the country where involvement in arts and culture is significantly below the national average.

Beneath the pavement, the marshes

Beneath the pavement, the marshes is a two-year action-research programme delving into the cultural, ecological and political dynamics of Crossness and Erith Marshes.

<h3>Taking inspiration from the diversity of creatures which call Crossness their home, this feast pays homage to one species from each field, recreating culinary versions of their habitats, nesting sites, foods, etc. All 8 fields—including those under threat of redevelopment, or already built upon—are each represented by a table created by Lemonot Studio. Each table has been developed collaboratively to be carved with unique shapes to mimic the landscape, and house the food inspired by it.</h3><p><br></p><p>The feast is designed to tie together the entire space through its culinary response. No one field is in isolation; rather it is in their combination that the food should be experienced, creating a unified sense of the space.</p><p><br></p><h4><strong><strong>About </strong></strong><strong><strong>Barney Pau</strong></strong></h4><p><a href="https://www.barneypau.com/" title="https://www.barneypau.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Barney Pau</a> is a London-based creative working across food, art, &amp; ecology, who focuses on food futures, queering consumption, and foraging and fermenting as social resistance. In his work, he uses food as an artistic medium to communicate his research through taste.</p><p>In 2021, Barney founded <a href="https://www.fingerfoodmag.com/" title="https://www.fingerfoodmag.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Finger Food Magazine</a>, a contributor-based space for all mediums exploring cooking, craft, and creation. When he's not cooking or editing, he writes on food and its theory for different publications, including his own <a href="https://barneypau.substack.com/" title="https://barneypau.substack.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Substack</a>.</p><p><br></p><h4><strong><strong>Important Details</strong></strong></h4><ul><li>This event is FREE and open to everyone. However, participants under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.</li><li>Spaces are limited, so booking is essential. </li><li>Entrance: on Norman Road. Additional information about the meeting point will be sent the day before the event.</li><li>Note: Onsite parking is available. Buses: 401 - 601.</li></ul><p><br></p><h4><strong><strong>Accessibility Notice</strong></strong></h4><ul><li>The workshop is not fully accessible for individuals with limited mobility.</li><li>The terrain is mostly flat but includes some stony areas, small inclines, and uneven grasslands.</li><li>The site is outdoors with limited shelter and can become muddy after rain. Please wear appropriate shoes and clothing. Bringing water is also recommended.</li></ul>
