The Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past (IPUP) is a research centre based in the Department of History at the University of York, established to study the meaning of the past in the present.

Join us for our annual postgraduate public history conference celebrating the research of MA, PhD &amp; early career researchers!

Hosted by the Institute for Public Understanding of the Past (IPUP) at the University of York, Public History Grad Con is an opportunity for postgraduate students, early career researchers and career practitioners to discuss current issues in the public history field. The theme for 2024 will be ‘History Makers for the Future’, featuring reflections from a range of speakers about their own experiences and current research. We are delighted to be welcoming Bethany Watrous, Founder and CEO of <a href="https://www.experience-heritage.com/" title="https://www.experience-heritage.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Experience Heritage</a>, who will be delivering the keynote address. Public History Grad Con will be hosted in person at the University of York, with the programme running between 09:30 and 17:30. Breaks will be scheduled throughout the day, and refreshments and lunch will be provided. The conference will be followed by an evening reception from 18:30, in the beautiful historic setting of York Medical Society.
