We have played a strategic role in Reading’s cultural life since 1993 – enabling art to appear in unexpected places and creating opportunities for people to look on and join in. We believe in the power of the arts to delight, intrigue, challenge and enrich, and we're committed to forming creative alliances and partnerships that encourage art and cultural life to flourish.

Are you a woman who arrived in Reading from another country between 1940 and 1990? Do you like crafts, sewing, chatting, making new friends?

Reading Museum

We are looking for women who arrived in Reading from another country between 1940 and 1990 and would like to share their stories for a community art project.Do you like crafts, sewing, chatting, making new friends, sharing craft skills?We would love you to come to a new group to share the stories of you and/or your family's journey to Reading and textiles that you brought with you. You can join in or simply listen.Bring your sewing, knitting, crochet, any craft or just come for a chat.The weekly workshops will be a welcoming space to share stories, memories, textile techniques and learn from others. You are welcome to work on your own craft or contribute to a collaborative piece. We will gather the stories and exhibit them at the Museum of English Rural Life in 2025.Join us on Fridays 9.30 - 11.30am at Reading MuseumDates: September 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th October 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th November 8th, 15th All Roads - Migration Stories is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to collect and celebrate textiles and stories from women who migrated to Reading. and supported by Reading Museum, The Museum of English Rural Life and Reading Community Learning Centre.
