The Community Pharmacist Consultation Service will lead to referrals from NHS111 for lower acuity conditions. The number of referrals is set to rise rapidly with the introduction of GP referrals and potentially, the introduction of NHS111 online referrals. Pharmacists need to move beyond 2WHAM to demonstrate the contribution they can make to managing patients as part of the urgent care system.
South Yorkshire LPCs are working together to help pharmacists develop their skills and confidence in effectively managing low acuity conditions, easing pressures in GP practices and A&E departments. During the workshop pharmacists will start to construct a development plan to continue their development in this area as part of their annual CPD.
At the end of the workshop participants will be able to;
<ul><li>Describe a number of models for structuring a consultation
</li><li>Understand how to identify differential diagnoses and red flags for common conditions
</li><li>Describe how to use the whole pharmacy team effectively to deliver the service
</li><li>List key considerations in making a recommendation
</li><li>Describe a process for making an effective referral to other services
</li><li>Write a plan for their development in this area.
</li></ul>The workshop will use evolving cases focusing on a small number of clinical areas to demonstrate effective processes and the range of clinical knowledge required.
