The Human Organising Project

Since the late 20th century notions of a fixed monolithic, socially, ethnically, familially determined self and identity, have been thoroughly deconstructed and many of these definitions are much more fluidly utilised today. Creatives such as David Bowie played with and successfully subverted many of these conventional social narratives surrounding these constructs. Now highly individuated, distinct entities of self or selves, continue to define, redefine and assert themselves both in individual and popular consciousness. Arguably many of these notions, ideas and trends of self and identity have emerged as a reaction to the suffocating restrictions of institutional familial, religious, social, racial and sexual oppressions of the past, that extremely inhibited the growth of the individual's autonomy and self expression.
This workshops will suggest that rather than defining self in reactionary ways to past events, or perceived threats by defining what self is or what it is not, that individual and social identities might thrive, in today's world, if they attached themselves more strongly to the limitless potentialities of an imagined undefined future. To envisage new potentials, to disclose new worlds, most acts of innovation and vision begin with an insight, a micro picture or sensing of a potential future. Therefore, to create next stage human organisations, building a shared visualised future for self and others, visions which inspire, uplift, that can be lived now and can also magnetically attract a better possible future towards us would seem to be essential to realise the organisation of the future.
This facilitated workshop will use individual and pair work, group discussion and experiential exercises to explore the barriers and potential practices that might allow participants to start glimpsing the potentials of an imagined future.
