During the course of this workshop we will journey back through time to the medieval era.
We will discover how colours were created, sourced and applied during this time period and some of the philosophies behind how they were used to create artworks both in Europe and the wider world. Following on from understanding how colours came to be at that time the main emphasis of the day will then be the crafting of a personal medieval palette with the same methods and ingredients used to make paint at that time.
Will include genuine samples of some of the historical sources of colour used at that time such as Azurite, Verdigris, Lapis Lazuli, and Cinnabar.
Participants will learn how to turn these pigments into paint, and, made into watercolours, this palette will then be able to be taken home by each participant at the end of the day in traditional shell paint holders.
