Free to download at the end of this webinar.At this short, powerful launch event, you will:•	have a guided tour of the newly co-produced resource.•	hear <a href="https://www.aldingbournetrust.org/our-people.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sue Livett</a> (Chief Executive of The Aldingbourne Trust) in conversation with <a href="https://www.bristol.ac.uk/people/person/Lucy-Series-1a813fba-ca2c-493e-a1fc-66bbf606c8ae/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr Lucy Series</a> (Lecturer in the School for Policy Studies at Bristol University). Together they will be discussing Supported Decision-Making, bringing it to life and challenging us all to do better! As Lucy writes in the opening words of the resource:‘Mental capacity law is a double-edged sword: it can be used to champion people’s rights to make decisions about their own lives – through Supported Decision-Making, or by maximising a person’s agency through facilitated decision making that is attentive to their wishes and feelings. But if used wrong, mental capacity law can also be used to dismiss a person’s wishes and feelings and rights to decide.This guide will help you to ensure disabled people enjoy legal capacity and rights to decide on an equal basis with others.’•	hear from <a href="https://www.deakin.edu.au/about-deakin/people/joanne-watson" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr Jo Watson </a>(Senior Lecturer in Disability and Inclusion in the School of Health and Social Development at Deakin University, Australia) ‘The right to supported decision-making for people rarely heard: how we can understand and uphold the will and preference of people who communicate differently.’ ‘Assumptions can be made that ‘these people’, ‘their lives’ are less valuable.
