How culture and creativity can be at the heart of addressing health inequalities in Greater Manchester.

Commissioned by the Great Place project in Greater Manchester Combined Authority and authored by Dr Clive Parkinson (Director of Arts for Health, Manchester Metropolitan University and Convenor of the Manchester Institute for Arts, Health and Social Change), A Social Glue sets out how culture and creativity contribute to the health and wellbeing of the people of Greater Manchester and how the time has never been better to champion and expand this agenda. Building on findings from both Health Equity in England: The Marmot Review 10 Years On (2020) and the Report of the Greater Manchester Inequalities Commission (2021), A Social Glue proposes that Greater Manchester become the world’s first Creative Health City Region, where, by 2024, heritage, culture and the arts will play a key part in the health and wellbeing of its diverse residents and workforce.As GM Health and Social Care Partnership takes on the new identity of an Integrated Care System, GMCA refreshes its Greater Manchester Strategy and the 10 GM districts continue post Covid recovery, we will hear from report author, Dr Clive Parkinson, on how Greater Manchester has the potential to address health inequality through creative engagement and lead this agenda, nurturing the power of collective, creative action for healthier and happier lives. Responding to the findings and 8 recommendations of the report will be Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council and Chair of Greater Manchester Health and Care Partnership, Warren Heppolette, Executive Lead - Strategy &amp; System Development at Greater Manchester Health &amp; Social Care Partnership; Esme Ward, chair of the Culture Health and Wellbeing Alliance and Director of Manchester Museum; Dr Jaweeda Idoo, Greater Manchester Clinical Champion for Personalised Care and Kevin Turner, artistic director of Company Chameleon. The launch event is the beginning of a process to discuss and develop a GM response to A Social Glue with colleagues across health and social care, local government, VCSEs and the cultural sector.We invite you to be part of the conversation.This event will be hosted on Microsoft Teams Live. This is a web-based platform and there is no need to download an app or any software.
