About Drought Download
Event Information
Description
All the data, all the learnings, all the resources, all in one place!
About Drought Download is the final event of the 5-year UK Drought and Water Scarcity Research Programme, showcasing the difference our work is already making:
-
How is climate change affecting water supply in the UK?
-
What does it mean for policy and industry?
-
What forecasting breakthroughs have been made and how are these already being used?
-
How can we protect the UK’s natural landscape from water shortage?
Whether you are a decision-maker in water supply, the energy industry, policy, business, environment, agriculture or the public sector, register your interest for this invitation-only event. This will not be a typical research project conference. It will have a stimulating and visually impactful atmosphere in which guests can engage with hands-on multi-disciplinary programme outputs from learning resources to podcast interviews, from datasets to searchable newspaper archives; as well as being able to listen to and question programme experts in various drought-related fields, network with people in the drought faculty (researchers and managers), and engage first-hand with users of the outputs from the programme.
The About Drought Download will showcase the great depth and breadth of the programme through an exhibition space and timed sessions scheduled throughout the day, gathered from the whole programme team.
Droughts and water scarcity jointly pose a substantial threat to the environment, agriculture, infrastructure, society and culture in the UK, yet our ability to characterise and predict their occurrence, duration and intensity, as well as minimise their impacts, has often been inadequate.
About Drought is the UK Droughts & Water Scarcity research programme, a five-year interdisciplinary, NERC programme in collaboration with ESRC, EPSRC, BBSRC and AHRC. It supports improved decision-making in relation to droughts and water scarcity by providing research that identifies, predicts and responds to the interrelation-ships between their multiple drivers and impacts. The programme’s research is UK-focused, and contributes to NERC’s natural hazards and climate system strategic science themes.
