Beginner Sewing Classes

These classes are aimed at complete beginners wanting to get started sewing & gain confidence before moving on to level 2 classes.

ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS SEWING COURSE5 x 2½ hour weekly classes held Thursday evenings from 20th March to 17th April 6-8.30Are you keen to learn how to sew or perhaps you learnt to sew years ago &amp; need a refresher- then this is the course for you! There's never been a better time to learn to sew &amp; I'll show you how sewing can be budget friendly &amp; more sustainable than high street fashion.On this Absolute Beginners sewing course you'll learn how to sew with a sewing machine &amp; make a bag &amp; a pair of PJ bottoms. By the end of the course you'll have practised various essential sewing techniques, gained confidence to sew independently &amp; sewn up your 1st garment.Week 1: Threading up the machine and bobbin, different stitches, adjusting tension, changing a needle and presser foot. Start to sew straight lines &amp; begin to sew your bag.Week 2: Sew up your bag &amp; learn French Seams. Discuss different fabric types, where to source cheaply.Week 3: How to read a pattern &amp; take accurate measurements. Lay out your pattern &amp; cut out the fabric for PJs.Week 4: Practice sewing curves. Start to sew PJs, consider the different finishing methods.Week 5: Finishing off, sewing hems, threading elastic, discuss adaptations or fit alterations that can be made for future makes.Small classes, so that you get the attention that you need as a beginner to gain confidence.What to bringMachines &amp; all sewing equipment that you need is provided.(Please contact me if you prefer to bring your own)Fabric is provided in the form of upcycled duvets for the tote bag or bring your own (please ensure that you have at least 1metre of 100% cotton fabric)For the PJ bottoms 1.5m - 2.5m of cotton fabric is needed, you will provide your own fabric, details will be given in week 1- I do have some fabrics that you can buy from me at cost, (I don’t make any profit on them).Instruction handouts are emailed after class as a reminder of what was learnt in classRefreshments are available.*Please note - the studio is accessed via stairs &amp; the toilets are downstairs. There is free off street parking outside the studio.Refund PolicyPayment in full is required at the time of booking to secure your place. If you find that you can't attend 7 days or more before the start of your class you will receive a full refund, less the EventBrite administration fees. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds for cancellations with less than 1 weeks notice.What's next?
