The project Acción xm2 is part of the Occupied Spaces programme, which aims to spark multi-faceted collaborations, linking Spanish-speaking artists with contexts, cultural agents and the places where the Instituto Cervantes centres are located. The idea is to bring artistic practice and its makers closer to the citizens of the world.Acción xm2 is a set of simultaneous performances during which each of 15 different artists will perform their creative actions on a spot of exactly one square meter at the premises of Instituto Cervantes. Their proposals can be participative, ludic, related to daily activities or actions of mobilisation and denunciation, among others. They will all combine with each other in the same space during a two-hour experience. It is a proposal from our gallery that was very much acclaimed both nationally and internationally. Our aim is to be able to provide the public with diverse and multiple approaches to a variety of themes and visions of Performance Art and artists in the same venue on the same day.In collaboration with <a href="https://www.lajuangallery.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">La Juan Gallery.</a>

Performances:Diagnostic interventions etc. (Jade Baldó @jbaldooo &amp; Karl Murphy @karljmurphy)The piece aims, through the use of language and presence, to establish new ways of defining and interacting with a substance that is only accessible within the realm of the poetic.An ether-like quality of universal and therefore mysterious, cacophonous and confusing properties. The formulation of a deity, a building block of anything to provide utopian ways of understanding. A religion of nothing and everything but above all of beauty, prophecy and poetry.Crossing language barriers, the audience is supposed to endlessly try to understand, failing and therefore filling the blanks with their own beliefs.Perfect Infinite Greeting by Myserfoyu University Research Team (Ochi Reyes @ochi_reyes &amp; Carloseastlondon @carloseastlondon Director: Omar starring)Ten handshakes can generate 10,000,000,000 different greeting sequences (VR10,10).If each handshake takes 0.5 seconds, we could build a 150 year long greeting, without repeating a sequence.We at the research team in Mayseford University are demonstrating this fact, which also proves the usefulness of mathematics in life... and in aesthetics.Omnicide (Isaak Reza @de_reza_)A performer stands still in tailored clothes. His fashion makes us assume he is halfway through a 9-5 job yet he stands still, inefficiently, moving from the defeated resting on the floor to a fascist levelling up above everyone.On the other side of the shore (Jaime del Fresno @_delfresno)On the other side of the shore, there is neither river nor land, but an infinite quagmire. A wasteland, an immense landfill, that swallows up everything that ends up there. But it is a populated land. The bodies of different morphologies and desires are sheltered there, abject bodies living outside language that have decided to forget the words, emptying their memory. The other side of the shore is the land of lovers; of all those who live in the vertigo of a caress and a sigh; of those who seek a way to get lost, of those who manipulate sound with their hands, who know how to invoke the secret symbols buried in the craters, of those who return to the labyrinth, because maybe they never left it.Amulet (Ana Lopes @ analopesmartinez)Discover the power of life-changing necklaces. Ana sells Amulet™, a device that predicts your future on-demand through generative images. Come take a look!Álvaro del Fresno (@esfinterr)The performance is proposed as an exploration of the rubbish dump as a political counter-archive. Understanding the performativity of the genre as a set of actions, words and gestures in continuous repetition, I pose the problem of symbolic excess: where is the surplus of the different productions of subjectivity that configure the political fabric of contemporaneity?Depths (Vincenzo Ottino @vincenzo.ottino)My proposal for the event is the result of an investigation of nonverbal storytelling and the creation of new organs. I programmed a machine-learning sound synthesizer with the help of a sensor that tracks both the movements and the gestures of the hand. In the performance I attempt to learn to play this physical translation instrument, even if it fails to recognise all the semantic value of some of my inputs, it continues to play. I also sneak in some counterfeit hands made of different materials, questioning the criteria of technological recognition: on the threshold of visibility, invisibility and hypervisibility. These aspects reconnect to a long term theme of mine, understanding the glitching position of queerness, looping in between subject and object. I’m interested in these feedback loops where information is channelled while it stays unread, inexhaustible and thus spread in order to generate a deviation.New Jelly (Andrew Oliver @andrwoliver &amp; Javier Marquerie Thomas @javiermarqueriethomas; Music and sound design by Harry Murd) Queerness as a utopian pursuit - a projection of futurity, or an imagined present. During periods of isolation, survival and healing occur behind closed doors, maybe free and unhinged. Queer loneliness in a big city. In New Jelly, closed eyes reveal a realm where deep-sea abyssal ecologies are met with the nostalgia of a smoking area, a dance floor or a friend. A metamorphosis gives room for an escape, a viscerally gelatinous contribution to the present continuous. A moment to marvel at the contrast between two states of being.Sad Mukbang at the End of Time (Nora Silva @noramutcho)Nora Silva’s piece consists in eating a Tesco’s Spanish omelette very slowly whilst grieving. Like a funeral of sorts, the work talks about the nostalgia for a lost past, on one hand for a foreign childhood, on the other for unindustrialised times. Seeing her national dish being churned out by major companies, Nora thinks about mass production at the edge of capitalism.Puente Aéreo (Marta Folchs @marta_fochs_actriz)This action reflects on how historical and biographical events intertwine, marking a lifeline that is affected by all the conditioning factors. Brexit, the pandemic, the lack of opportunities and personal relationships build a new identity that I carry in a suitcase from airport to airport in the hope of a better life.The thing had to be shiny: A practical guide to fun, glossy and commodified objects (Paz Alberta @pazalberta)This is a fun compilation of practical applications, methods and commercial uses of fun and shiny things for when the magpies arrive. There are multiple options available for you to be a glossy and shimmering thing; I will be a fun shiny and commodified object, and you?Cervantes Arena: Arena for Cervantes, Arena of Sand (Kimvi Nguyen @kimvi_nguyen)Kimvi’s performance within the perimeter of a square is seen as the arena for the artist’s reinterpretation of her continual struggle to learn the Spanish language, replacing verbal communication with bodily gestures. The performance takes inspiration from the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes and Kimvi fascination with words that appear the same within the Spanish and English languages.

El proyecto Acción xm2 forma parte del Programa Espacios Ocupados, propuesta que busca articular trayectorias en diferentes direcciones que sirvan para relacionar a artistas de habla hispana con contextos, agentes culturales y lugares donde se ubican los centros de la red del Instituto Cervantes, con la idea de acercar la práctica artística y sus hacedores a la ciudadanía del mundo.Así, Acción xm2 tomará el Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester con un conjunto de 15 performances simultáneas en las que otros tantos artistas diferentes ejecutan su acción dentro del espacio correspondiente a un metro cuadrado cada una. Acciones participativas, lúdicas, cotidianas o de denuncia se combinan generando una experiencia de dos horas de duración. Se trata de una exposición artística del arte de acción con un amplio recorrido que ha sido realizada en distintas ciudades, nacionales e internacionales, y cuyo fin es acercar la performance al público de todas las edades de una manera novedosa y sorprendente al posibilitarle disfrutar de una amplia variedad de temas, visiones y artistas de performance en el mismo sitio y en el mismo día.En colaboración con <a href="https://www.lajuangallery.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">La Juan Gallery</a>.

Su moda nos hace suponer que está a medio camino de un trabajo de 9 a 5 y, sin embargo, se queda quieto, ineficiente, pasando de los derrotados que descansan en el suelo a un fascista que se eleva por encima de todos.Al otro lado de la orilla (Jaime del Fresno @_delfresno)Al otro lado de la orilla, no se encuentra ni el río ni la tierra, sino un infinito cenagal. Terreno baldío, inmenso vertedero, que engulle todo lo que en él se yergue. Pero es tierra poblada. En ella se resguardan cuerpos de diferentes morfologías y deseos, cuerpos abyectos que habitan fuera del lenguaje, que han decidido olvidar las palabras, vaciar su memoria. El otro lado de la orilla es el terreno de l_s amantes. De tod_s quienes habitan en el vértigo de la caricia y el suspiro, de quienes buscan el camino por el que perderse, de quienes manipulan el sonido con las manos, de quienes saben invocar los símbolos secretos enterrados en los cráteres, de quienes vuelven, por qué quizás nunca salieron, al laberinto.Amulet (Ana Lopes @ analopesmartinez)Descubre el poder de los collares que cambian la vida. He programado un sintetizador de sonido con aprendizaje automático gracias a un sensor que rastrea tanto los movimientos como el gesto de la mano. En la actuación intento aprender a tocar este instrumento corporal de traducción, aunque no consigue reconocer todo el valor semántico de algunas de mis entradas, sigue tocando. También introduzco a hurtadillas algunas manos falsas hechas de diferentes materiales, cuestionando los criterios de reconocimiento tecnológico: en el umbral de la visibilidad, la invisibilidad y la hipervisibilidad. Estos aspectos vuelven a conectarse con un largo tema mío en la comprensión de la posición de glitching de la mariconería, en bucle entre el sujeto y el objeto. Durante los periodos de aislamiento la supervivencia y la cicatrización ocurren a puerta cerrada, quizás de manera libre y desinhibida. La soledad cuir en la gran ciudad.En “New Jelly” (Nueva Gelatina), los ojos cerrados revelan una esfera donde las ecologías abisales de las profundidades del océano se encuentran con la nostalgia de una zona de fumadores, de una pista de baile o de una amiga. Una metamorfosis que da pie a una huida, contribución visceralmente gelatinosa del presente continuo. Un momento para admirar el contraste entre dos estados del ser.Sad Mukbang at the End of Time (Nora Silva @noramutcho)La pieza de Nora Silva consiste en comer una tortilla española de Tesco muy lentamente, apenada. Como una especie de funeral, la obra habla de la nostalgia de un pasado perdido, por un lado, de una infancia extranjera, por otro de tiempos no industrializados. Al ver que su plato nacional es fabricado por las grandes empresas, Nora piensa en la producción en masa al borde del capitalismo.Puente Aéreo (Marta Folchs @marta_fochs_actriz)Esta acción reflexiona sobre cómo los sucesos históricos y los biográficos se entrecruzan marcando una línea vital que se ve afectada por todos los condicionantes. El Brexit, la pandemia, la falta de oportunidades o las relaciones personales van construyendo una nueva identidad que arrastro en una maleta de aeropuerto en aeropuerto con la esperanza de conseguir una vida mejor.The thing had to be shiny: A practical guide to fun, glossy and commodified objects (Paz Alberta @pazalberta)Esta es una divertida recopilación de aplicaciones prácticas, métodos y usos comerciales de cosas brillantes y divertidas para cuando vengan las urracas. Hay múltiples opciones para que seas una cosa brillante y reluciente; yo seré un divertido objeto brillante y mercantilizado, ¿y tú?Cervantes Arena: Arena for Cervantes, Arena of Sand (Kimvi Nguyen @kimvi_nguyen)La actuación de Kimvi en el perímetro de un metro cuadrado es un escenario de la reinterpretación que hace la artista de su continua lucha por aprender español, sustituyendo la comunicación verbal por los gestos corporales. El espectáculo se inspira en Miguel de Cervantes y la fascinación de Kimvi por las palabras que parecen iguales en la lengua española y en la inglesa.
