This event is part of the High Weald Pasture & Profit Programme.
Join us for a guided walk on a 35-acre Wealden farm with Edwina and Richard Moore. Their farm includes a mix of pasture, hedgerows, 3 ponds, and woodland, offering valuable shade and shelter within the grazing system. They have 52 pedigree Lleyn ewes born last spring.
The event will explore how adaptive grazing using electric fencing has improved pasture, soil structure, and the condition of the sheep, even through challenging conditions. We’ll also discuss the role of breed choice, as different breeds of sheep may respond differently to grazing strategies, conditions, and management.
Topics will include:
- Setting up and managing electric fencing for rotational grazing
- Managing pasture and soil health on Wealden clay
- Improving pasture and recovery under grazing pressure
- Shelter, shade, and stock welfare in mixed landscapes
- Performance and condition of Lleyn ewes under pasture-based systems
- The impact of breed traits in system resilience
Aimed at farmers interested in low-input systems, breeding for performance off forage, managing challenging soils and adaptive grazing for resilience.
Please wear suitable footwear for walking fields. Teas and coffees will be provided.
