About this event
About this session
The term 'Adaptive Teaching' has become commonly used in schools to describe a more inclusive approach to learning and teaching. Yet, there can be misunderstandings about what this means for lesson design, especially in Maths lessons.
In this session we will explore the principles of Adaptive Teaching and how it can underpin effective inclusive whole class mathematics teaching, referring you to key principles and research, as well as recent messages from OFSTED that are supportive of this approach.
We will:
- explore how Adaptive Teaching can be defined and how it differs from previous curriculum models
- consider how to effectively structure sequences of learning to ensure that children develop security with mathematical concepts
- examine how SEND pupils / pupils who experience barriers are provided for and how their learning of mathematics can be supported in this approach.
As a result of this session, you will have a clear understanding of the adaptive teaching approach and how it can be used to support learners' progress, particularly those who would have traditionally been described as lower attaining pupils under previous curriculum models. You will have a greater appreciation of how lessons can be designed to support more pupils progress towards age related expectations.
Suitable for:
Teachers, SENCOs/ALNCos, LSAs and Mathematics Subject Leaders
Also included:
· Summary Sheet of Key Points
· Certificate of Attendance
These will be emailed to you at the start of the session.
