About this event
Join us for an important session introducing new interim guidance on addressing racism and racist incidents in schools. The guidance has been developed by the Scottish Government in collaboration with the Racism and Racist Incidents Subgroup of the Anti-Racism in Education Programme as part of the forthcoming whole-school approach to addressing racism and racist incidents.
This guidance aims to support schools in developing clear, consistent approaches to responding to, recording, and monitoring racist incidents experienced or displayed by children and young people.
During the session, we will:
· Share practice examples developed by educators, highlighting effective approaches to fostering inclusive school environments where all members of the school community—children and young people, families, and staff—feel confident and supported in responding to racism.
· Hear directly from children and young people through the powerful Anti-Racism Young Voices Anthology, which reflects their lived experiences and perspectives.
· Be joined by representatives from the Scottish Government and educators involved in the Anti-Racism Mentors programme, who will offer insights into how this guidance is being embedded in schools.
This session is an opportunity for educators, school leaders, and community partners to engage with this crucial work and help ensure that all learners feel safe, respected, and included in Scotland’s schools.
Education Scotland aims to have an inclusive environment for all participants, by identifying and removing barriers in our practices.
