<P>The Methodist Church Creating Safer Space Advanced Module 2018 Training (Core Learning Session).</P>
<P>The module comprises three parts and this event is specifically thye Core Learning Session. Attendees will be required to complete the Essential Preparation in advance of attending this day.</P>
<UL>
<LI>Essential preparation (1 hour 30 minutes) This can be done individually or in groups subject to local arrangements.</LI>
<LI>Core learning session (4 hours)</LI>
<LI>Handbook (a resource for further study)</LI>
</UL>
<P>Aims</P>
<P>The aim of the Advanced Module is to consolidate and develop your previous safeguarding learning and to:</P>
<UL>
<LI>explore what this means in your designated role of responsibility within the Church</LI>
<LI>further equip you with skills and resources to be confident in promoting good practice in the Church and community</LI>
<LI>extend your understanding of responding well to different groups within the Church community.</LI>
</UL>
<P>Engagement with all three elements of the Advanced Module will enable you to meet these aims.</P>
<P>This training is mandatory for :</P>

<P>  Safeguarding coordinator – Circuit </P>
</LI>
<LI>
<P>  Safeguarding Officer – District </P>
</LI>
<LI>
<P>  Members of the District Safeguarding Group </P>
</LI>
<LI>
<P>  Members of the District Policy Committee </P>
</LI>
<LI>
<P> All presbyters or deacons with an active preaching or pastoral ministry (including supernumerary ministers)</P>
</LI>
<LI>
<P>  Those who are in paid employment or a voluntary role which includes leadership within the Methodist Church, which involves direct work with children, youth or vulnerable adults </P>
</LI>
<LI>
<P>  Lay persons who are appointed to exercise pastoral leadership within a local church </P>
</LI>
<LI>
<P>  Local preachers </P>
</LI>
<LI>
<P>  Worship leaders </P>
</LI>
<LI>
<P>  Safeguarding officer – church </P>
<P>In addition: Warmly invited but not mandatory </P>
</LI>

<P>  Supernumerary ministers apart from those who have an active preaching or pastoral ministry. <BR></P>
</LI>
<LI>
<P>  It has not been possible to create a standard list. There should not be too many varied roles and responsibilities represented at the training since the material focuses on leadership responsibilities rather than general safeguarding awareness. However there needs to be flexibility for inclusion where this would be helpful. This decision making should form part of the responsibility of the District Safeguarding Group when planning the provision of Advanced Module day sessions, across the District.</P>
