Advanced Rigging Mountain

Scottish Mountain Rescue (SMR) represents25 Mountain Rescue Teams(MRTs) made up of highly trained volunteers who are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to emergencies and carry out a specialist search and rescue service in the mountains and remote communities in Scotland to keep people safe and help people if and when they get into difficulty.

Glenmore Lodge

This weekend course will take place at Glenmore Lodge on a residential basis.We have a limited number of spaces available on this course, so we will be restricting bookings initially to a maximum of 2 per team.Please therefore ensure that you have spoken to your Training Officer before registering for this course.

Designed for team members with current practical skills and knowledge of the SMR Rigging Practitioner course, or equivalent knowledge and experience level of technical rescue systems.Over the years teams have developed various systems for dealing with casualties in a steep environment. This course looks at advanced mountain based systems in use today. Extracting a casualty from steep ground with difficult access and variable terrain presents a unique set of problems and solutions.We will look at mid face pick off techniques and examine casualty release systems including the effect of cutting the rope. Plus we will cover at Highline systems in depth. A serious tensioned rope system widely used but often underestimated. Plus some hauling systems.The programme will update and improve your practical technical rigging knowledge and skills in the field. <h1>What to bring</h1>Sufficient personal equipment is required to enable candidates to operate within a mountainous and crag environment and in all weather conditions for the duration of the course. For your comfort and safety please ensure you have appropriate personal safety equipment for this course.In particular, participants must bring: Midge net, midge spray, Harness, helmet, team radio + spare battery, personal MR and crag rescue kit.In addition, you will need to bring a face mask, hand sanitiser, first aid kit and personal medications, as well as a pen/notepad.

<h1>Venue</h1>Please note that owing to the Covid-19 situation, your stay at Glenmore Lodge will be as follows:Please arrive at Glenmore Lodge between 4pm and 10pm and go straight to Reception. If you are unexpectantly delayed, please call our Reception on 01479 861256.Unfortunately, due to Covid:19 restrictions, GL are currently unable to provide any transfers to/from Aviemore station or meals in the Lochain Bar on your night of arrival.Check out on the Sunday is by10am at the latest. GL do have luggage storage/lockers available, however, their changing rooms and showers are currently unavailable.You will be staying in a single room.Meals included are breakfasts and packed lunches on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on Saturday evening. You will be able to fill a flask/water bottle each day.
