Advancing teaching and learning on Race

University of Brighton Equality & Diversity Team

This University of Brighton conference led by Dr Marlon Moncrieffe will present examples of theory, evidence based research, good practice as well as progress and future developments for advancing teaching and learning on race here at Brighton. 
The afternoon will include talks, panel discussion and conversations from leading experts:
Keynote Dr Jason Arday, University of Roehampton 'Racism, Whiteness and Decolonising the Academy'
Dr Richard Race, University of Roehampton, Dr Dorrie Chetty, University of Westminster and Professor Shirley Steinberg, University of Calgary 'Advancing Multicultural Dialogues in Education'
Dr Daniel Burdsey (School of Sport and Service Management) in conversation with Dr Aarti Ratna (Leeds Beckett University) 'Decolonising the Sociology of Sport' and Race Equality Charter Patron Professor Kevin Hylton (Leeds Beckett University) 'Examining Race, Racism, Nation and Identity through sport'. 
An inter-professional staff and student panel led by the University’s Race Equality Charter Steering Group will discuss student experiences of teaching and case studies of embedding race equality into teaching.
The event will close with a talk and display of Dr Marlon Moncrieffe's exhibition on 'Uncovering the Life Histories of Black British Champions in Cycling.'
Registration will open at 1.30pm for a 2pm prompt start.
This will be followed by a drinks reception.
