Age in Place is a day-long event that will consider how focussing on the needs and experiences of older people can help to create better places for us all.The day will include talks from people who are making real change in their communities, alongside interactive workshops exploring how experiences of place are shaped by our bodily senses and movements. You will also be invited to share your own ideas about how considerations of our longevity should inform placemaking approaches.The event will be opened by Lancashire County Councillor Joan Burrows, Champion for Older People, followed by talks by anti-ageism advocate and founder of Ready Generations, Sue Egersdorff and Strategic Lead of Ageing in Place at the Greater Manchester Ageing Hub, Nicola Waterworth. Workshops will be led by architectural technologist, Ann Vanner and Artistic Director of LPM Dance, Helen Gould. By connecting creative practitioners, academics, health and social care professionals, and local residents and decisionmakers, we aim to create new collaborations, which can drive change and help to create a more age-friendly Lancashire.Age in Place is organised by the <a href="https://www.uclan.ac.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">University of Central Lancashire</a>, through a collaboration between the <a href="https://www.uclan.ac.uk/research/activity/cpra" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Creative Practice Research Academy</a>, the<a href="https://www.uclan.ac.uk/research/institutes/citizenship-society-and-change" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Institute for Citizenship, Society &amp; Change</a>, and <a href="https://incertainplaces.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">In Certain Places</a>.(I﻿mage courtesy of Ready Generations)About our SpeakersSue Egersdorff set up Ready Generations in 2019 as a charity to encourage connections between people of different ages, particularly the very young and the very old. Her ambition is to create potential for a refreshing community dynamic that really does put people first. In 2022, Ready Generations established The Nursery in Belong. Based in the heart of Belong Chester care village, The Nursery’s intention is to create a vibrant community where children and adults of all ages can benefit from living, sharing, learning and just being with each other in the same space. (https://readygenerations.co.uk/)Nicola Waterworth is Strategic Lead for Ageing in Place at Greater Manchester Ageing Hub at Greater Manchester Combined Authority. Nicola is leading on Greater Manchester’s Ageing in Place Pathfinder testing new ways with neighbourhoods to support older people to live well for longer with better health and connections in their own local community. Nicola previously worked for the Centre for Ageing Better and is a Non-Executive Director at Livv Housing Group in Liverpool City Region. Nicola is passionate about challenging ageism and adapting society for an ageing population. Nicola has had a career in the public, social enterprise and gender equality sectors championing collaboration, co-production and social investment to create change and tackle inequality. (https://www.greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk/what-we-do/equalities/ageing-hub/)About our Workshop LeadersHelen Gould is a dance artist, movement director, project manager and performer whose career has spanned the commercial and contemporary dance theatre sector in the UK and Europe in contexts ranging from musical theatre to film, contemporary dance performance to casino productions. While working for Ludus Dance from 2009 – 2011 she discovered a keen interest in inclusive practice and working with people with a range of abilities and different health conditions. In 2011, Helen co-established LPM Dance with George Adams and since then the company has developed a track record for creating and producing new dance initiatives in diverse settings, many of which have an inclusive focus. (https://lpmdance.com/)Ann Vanner is a Living Future Accredited Professional (LFA), and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologist (FCIAT), an architect (ARB), educator (SFHEA), practical researcher and academic. Practical Creativity is her starting point and approach as it fosters the idea of learning through doing and inspirational pragmatism. Ann brings an unconventional and unwavering passion for the built environment, detailed construction knowledge, and a desire to make a positive change in the environment, and for those she works with. Ann's research interest lies in moving beyond the sustainability agenda to a more regenerative approach and looks at how we might 'heal' the built environment, advocation for enhanced user experience, health and wellbeing by reconnecting with nature, while celebrating the junctions and details of materials and building elements in design, construction, use and deconsontruction of buildings.
