Event description

Description

The Advocates Group on European Union Law (AGEUL) is hosting a EU referendum related event on Thursday 26th May from 16:00 in the Mackenzie Building, New Assembly Close. AGEUL is especially pleased to announce that Sir David Edward will be chairing the event with Kenneth Campbell QC presenting on the following:

"A 'new settlement'? Legal conclusions on the Conclusions of the European Council of 18/19 February: A good deal has been written about some of the possible legal issues which may arise in the event of a ‘leave’ vote in the forthcoming EU referendum. A ‘stay’ vote will also have legal consequences, and rather less has been said about those. While this presentation does not advocate a particular side of the referendum debate, it will explore some of the legal issues which arise from the Conclusions of European Council of 18/19 February. Topics which arise include: the mechanics of implementation, the extent to which the agreement(s) bind in the interim, and some thoughts about longer term effects on the EU legal order."

Registration opens at 16:00 with tea and coffee provided, with the event starting at 16:30
