Get ready to team up and build smart AI tools to fight money laundering in this fun, hands-on hackathon.
Part of the AI Sprint: six weeks of events across Guernsey, 1 October to 12 November 2026.
The AI for AML Hackathon will explore how artificial intelligence can support the development, testing, and validation of innovative Anti-Money Laundering (AML) solutions.
Participants will work with realistic synthetic AML datasets designed to reflect a range of money laundering typologies without using real customer information. Teams will develop and demonstrate AI-enabled approaches to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and explainability of AML monitoring systems, while considering one of three problem statements:
- Source of wealth / source of funds
- Global identity
- Ownership / control in complex structures.
The hackathon will run over one week and include a kick-off event, and two key drop-in sessions:
- Day 1 – Introduction and Problem Statements: An overview of the hackathon, followed by the presentation of three AML-related challenges for teams to explore.
- Day 3 – Regulator Engagement: An opportunity for participants to meet with the regulator, ask questions, and gain further insight into the problem statements and regulatory considerations.
- Day 5 – Showcase and Wrap-Up: Teams will share their ideas, solutions, key findings, and learnings, followed by a discussion on their potential impact and future applications in AML.
The event aims to encourage collaboration and generate practical insights into how AI and synthetic data can contribute to the future of AML.
Who’s it for?: AML and financial crime professionals, technology and product teams, regulators, industry experts and anyone interested in developing innovative solutions to financial crime challenges and seeking to understand the opportunities and limitations of AI in AML.
