English Join CHARTS and Engage Scotland for a 1-hour online event as part of AITHNE: Mapping Gaelic Participatory Visual Artists in Scotland. This session offers an opportunity for artists, curators, and cultural organisations engaging with Gaelic language and culture to connect, share practice, and explore ways to reach new audiences. The session will include short presentations from Dr Deirdre MacKenna and Janie Nicoll, followed by a facilitated Q&amp;A, offering insight into working creatively and collaboratively in a Gaelic cultural context, whether as a practitioner or commissioner of work. This event is designed for artists working with Gaelic language and culture and is part of AITHNE: Mapping Gaelic Participatory Visual Artists in Scotland. This event will be recorded. This event will be held in English. The partnership between <a href="https://www.chartsargyllandisles.org/" title="https://www.chartsargyllandisles.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">CHARTS</a> and Engage Scotland has been made possible with the support from the National Lottery through <a href="https://www.creativescotland.com/" title="https://www.creativescotland.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Creative Scotland</a>. Àdhamh Ó Broin is a Gael of mixed Irish and Scottish Highland ancestry, brought up between mainland Argyll and Glasgow. Àdhamh has been involved in the arts his entire adult life as a Gaelic Consultant, Film Producer, Writer, MC and Multi-Instrumentalist Composer. He is a passionate Gaelic speaker, singer and tradition bearer. As CHARTS Gaelic Culture Officer, Àdhamh is responsible for the strategic development of Gaelic cultural services for Argyll and Bute. This includes designing and supporting projects and award schemes, and promoting the CHARTS network among Gaelic arts, heritage, and cultural communities. This role is designed to meet key cultural objectives aligned with the Argyll and Bute Gaelic Language Plan and the National Language Plan. This role is funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig and supported by Argyll and Bute Council. Engage Scotland supports and represents Engage members based in Scotland whilst responding to regional needs. Engage Scotland offers a programme of advocacy, research, and training, to help ensure the quality, inclusivity, and relevance of engagement and participation in the visual arts in Scotland. SpeakersDr Deirdre MacKenna has been a programmer of contemporary visual art for 25 years, in Scotland, Italy and throughout Europe, developing and leading processes which activate knowledge and create connections for people through transdisciplinary dialogues and exchange. Her research investigates social and environmental change and new methods and models of culture production through a process of progressive focusing, which she articulated through her PhD ‘Duration, Cultural Programming and Sensemaking’ (AHRC-funded University of Dundee). Janie Nicoll is a Glasgow-based visual artist with a practice that spans both socially engaged and studio-based work. She holds a first-class honours degree in Painting from Edinburgh College of Art and an MFA from Glasgow School of Art. Working across installation, photography, film, digital imaging, collage, printmaking, and assemblage, she often creates works outside traditional gallery spaces, collaborating with others. Janie has exhibited internationally, with recent residencies at CCA Glasgow, Tramway, and Metal Liverpool. Janie has had a long involvement with Scottish Artists Union, as president and until recently as Projects and Campaigns Manager. Janie was a trustee of Engage.
