Alcohol harms and labelling: right to know vs. don’t want to know
Date and time
Description
A free public event to share findings from our research exploring what drinkers think about providing health information on alcohol labels (funded by the Medical Research Council and Alcohol Research UK). The evening will start with a brief overview of the research findings followed by an expert panel debate exploring why is it important to communicate alcohol-related harms to the public, what these are for an ‘average’ drinker and whether labelling is a possible method to reduce harm. The second half of the evening will include a series of interactive stalls showcasing current research in the alcohol field, a pop-up bar with alcohol-free alternatives, technological advances to support public health, and local and international policy.
Expert panel:
- Sir Ian Gilmore – Alcohol Health Alliance
- Dr Tim Williams – Avon and Wiltshire mental health partnership NHS trust
- Dr Robyn Burton – King’s College London
- Ms Leonie Roberts – Bristol City Council
- Prof Marcus Munafò – Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group
The event is free but please register to secure a place and arrive with enough time to be seated by 6.30pm.
*There will be a photographer at the event: please let us know when you arrive if you would prefer not to be in any photographs and we can organise this for you.*
